DOCThe Horses Are Loose

The Horses Are Loose present characters, landscapes and stories gleaned from almost 50 years on the road involving racetracks, hockey arenas, border crossings, war zones, protest lines, international solidarity, urban sprawl, gated communities and taverns….on this CD alone, you’ll meet a broad range of historical characters as diverse as Christopher Columbus, Bob Dylan, Marie-Joseph Angelique, Glenn Hall, Hank Williams, Pamela Wallin, and Pete Seeger. You’ll hear of Grade 3’s rising in rebellion, refugees fleeing their borders, slavery in New France, a total eclipse of the sun in Southern Mexico, disappearing farmland in Ontario, NHL hockey scouts on a mission, a Save the World, World Tour, city councillors banning a Walmart, unrequited love and heartache seen through a bottle, a Senate scandal in Ottawa, an homage to the grandfather of American folk music, and of course the story contained in the title track–the night the horses got loose on the Old Ariss Road in Southern Ontario.

Bill Heffernan – The Horses Are Loose- A Review

“Late bloomer recordings don’t always work. At best, some evoke a smile and a nod for a job well, if belatedly, done. Heffernan’s effort is different. These are deep, rich songs that could only have been written by someone who has lived a full and activist – not just active – life. He’s got a pretty stellar cast behind him too!”

Bill-Heffernan_0“A clever wordsmith with a wry wit and devilish gleam in both his eye and his singing. Bill hosts a very lively and creative musical salon with feature guests.”
